"Rent Day" - The George Stinson House, Toronto

C$450.00Price

This original watercolour and ink painting features a quirky duplex located at 9 and 11 Spadina Road in Toronto.  The home was built in 1890, and it was among the first buildings constructed on the street.  The original occupants were FW Himsworth at No. 9 Spadina Road, and George Stinson at No. 11 Spadina Road.  The red brick home features both Gothic Revival and Italianate architectural elements.  I located an archive photo from a time when this heritage designated house operated as the Karabanow Tourist Home and a Real Estate office, although I understand that it has had many uses over the years.  One of the last occupants that I could find at this house was the Fat Bastard Burrito Company.  They are no longer located here.

The George Stinson House was developed in the late 19th century as part of a middle class residential subdivision in the East Annex neighbourhood.  After the area was annexed by the City of Toronto in 1887, development of the area began in earnest.  The Stinson House was indicative of the substantial, richly detailed buildings that made the East Annex one of Toronto’s most desirable neighbourhoods.

This painting was created in a 11 x 14 inch size, and is matted and framed to a 19.5 by 23.5 inch size.

It is matted and framed and READY TO HANG.

Shipping is included in the purchase price if going to an address in Canada.
